Terrence Howard says he is open to running for president of the United States, arguing that someone must step forward if current political leaders fail to deliver meaningful change.
The 57-year-old ‘Empire’ star spoke during a recent encounter with TMZ, when he was asked whether he intended to vote in the upcoming elections.
“Yes. I’m looking forward to becoming president,” he said.
“If they’re not going to make a difference, somebody’s got to do something.”
The movie star also outlined a proposal to address the economic consequences of slavery in the United States.
He said he would like to meet President Donald Trump to discuss the lasting impact of slavery, arguing that descendants of enslaved people should be exempt from federal taxes for the next 400 years.
Howard also said the proposal could help reduce economic disparities and encourage investment in Black communities. He described the idea as a way to heal what he called “400 years of bad karma”.
However, the actor did not provide details on how the proposed tax exemption would be implemented or indicate whether he had taken any formal steps towards a presidential campaign.
Howard has received a Screen Actors Guild Award as well as nominations for an Academy Award, a Golden Globe Award, and two Independent Spirit Awards. Cable
