Popular entertainer and cerebral comedian, Okey Bakassi, has debunked rumours circulating on social media that his marriage of over two decades to his wife, Ezinne, has collapsed, describing the claims as false, malicious and completely unfounded.
The ace comedian and actor, who also holds a traditional leadership title, made this known in an exclusive chat with the Publisher of DAYLIGHT, Azuh Amatus, insisting that his marriage to the mother of his children remains solid and “100 per cent intact.”
Bakassi, who recently celebrated his 25th wedding anniversary with his wife and children, expressed disappointment over the spread of what he described as malicious falsehoods aimed at destroying an innocent and thriving marriage.
He characterised those behind the rumours as “insane and lazy souls, seeking to destroy an innocent, strong and healthy union ordained by God.”
“Amatus, thanks for reaching out to me on this madness currently going on on social media.
“These days, jobless and insane souls are busy spreading falsehoods and lies on social media.
“I didn’t even know about it until my phones started ringing ceaselessly yesterday, with close friends calling to ask what was going on in my marriage.
“I just came back from Canada, where my wife and I recently celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary with our children,” he disclosed.
The comedian also faulted claims that his wife and children reside in the United States, insisting that the information being circulated was another indication that the story was fabricated.
“The insane and jobless person spreading this fake news said my wife and children are residing in the US. But my family lives permanently in Canada, not the US,” he stated.
Expressing his resolve to protect his family and reputation, Bakassi vowed to take legal action against those responsible for spreading the false report.
He also urged Nigerians and his fans across the world to disregard the rumour, maintaining that he remained unperturbed by the development.
According to him, he initially decided not to dignify the report with a response but later reconsidered following discussions with close friends.
“I initially said I wouldn’t dignify this fake news with a response. But I later changed my mind and put out a video to counter it after discussions with close friends,” Bakassi concluded.
