*Lagos —* The Director-General of the National Film and Video Censors Board, NFVCB, Dr. Shaibu Husseini, has clarified that the Board’s newly introduced classification policy is not designed to witch-hunt movie producers but to protect consumers.
Husseini gave the clarification at the weekend in Lagos at the official launch of Bebuzee, a multi-digital content streaming platform.
According to him, the Board will not tolerate content that undermines societal values, urging content creators to operate within the ambit of the law.
“The Board frowns at any content that undermines our societal values. We appeal to content producers to carry out their activities in line with the laws of the country,” he said.
In his remarks, the founder of Bebuzee, Mr. Joseph Onyero, said the platform was built to ensure that content creators get their due reward while projecting authentic African stories to the global audience.
Onyero disclosed that the platform targets over 100 million subscribers from Nigeria, a major reason the country was chosen for its launch.
The event, chaired by Dr. Husseini, featured the formal unveiling of the platform and had in attendance notable Nollywood practitioners and other stakeholders in the creative industry.
