United Bank for Africa (UBA) has appointed Loknath Mishra as the Chief Executive Officer of its United Kingdom subsidiary, UBA UK, with effect from February 2, 2026.
The appointment, according to the bank, underscores UBA Groupโs commitment to strengthening its international presence and consolidating its position as a key financial bridge between Africa and global markets.
In a statement, UBA said Mishra will focus on positioning UBA UK as a centre of excellence in regulatory compliance and customer service, strengthening financial resilience through diversified liquidity and income streams, and deepening the bankโs leadership in trade, transaction and correspondent banking to support business flows between Africa and the rest of the world. The bank noted that Mishra brings decades of international banking experience spanning retail, corporate, investment and transaction banking, with a strong track record in building and leading regulated banking platforms in the UK and Europe. Prior to joining UBA UK, he served as Managing Director and CEO of ICICI Bank UK, where he strengthened the bankโs footprint across the UK and Europe, while enhancing governance, regulatory engagement and operational resilience.
He has also held senior leadership positions at ICICI Bank Limited, including Group Head of Wholesale Banking and Global Head of Transaction Banking, contributing to the expansion of its global wholesale franchise and strengthening risk management frameworks.
Commenting on the appointment, UBA Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Oliver Alawuba, said Mishraโs global experience and regulatory expertise would be critical in advancing UBA UK as a flagship subsidiary and supporting trade and investment flows between Africa and international markets.
Mishra, in his remarks, expressed delight at the appointment, noting that UBAโs role in connecting Africa to global markets is strategically important, and pledged to work with the Group to strengthen UBA UKโs platform and support client growth across Africa and beyond. Vanguard
