In its ongoing transformation of Anambra State, Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo and members of the Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC) approved the construction of the Nri-Agbanabo-Nimo Road as part of efforts to turn the state into the Dubai-Silicon Valley of the country.
The decision for the new project was reached at the 17th ANSEC meeting held on the 30th of July 2025, at the Light House, Awka, where the apex body also made other significant decisions.
According to the State’s Commissioner for Information, Law Mefor, ANSEC also came up with the restoration of the name, Abakaliki Street, which was renamed Club Road in 2018, by the then administration.
Mefor stated that the restoration was done to correct what ANSEC called ‘a historic mistake’ and to restore the historical significance of the street.
He averred that the council reiterated the oneness of the Igbo ethnic group, seeing states in the zone as mere administrative conveniences and not identities.
Recently, ANSEC approved the Awka City Park Project designed to provide environmental, aesthetic, and recreational benefits to the state capital, along with social, health, and economic benefits, with work set to commence immediately.
It also awarded a fourth dual carriageway, namely, the Ekwulobia to Nnobi Dualisation Road Project. This completes the linking of the four major Anambra cities by dual carriageways, thereby completing the beltway to permit easy flow of traffic around the state.
The Council further reviewed and approved the progress report for the 2024 Business Enabling Reforms Action Plan (BERAP).
Following the successful implementation of the flagship digital training programme, One-Youth-Two-Skills Scheme, ANSEC approved Cohort Two of the scheme, with the execution process already in place.
Mefor pointed out that the Council reviewed the success of Cohort One, where 7,163 out of 11,000 trainees excelled in 65 skill areas. Additionally, 235 apprentices from the Local Enterprise Development of 21 local governments in the state were successful, with over 1,000 millionaires emerging from the graduates.
Earlier, the Council agreed on a start-up business incubation programme run by the Solution Innovation District (SID) to assist early-stage businesses.
This special business startup training supports Governor Soludo’s goal of promoting innovation-led growth and establishing Anambra as a centre for entrepreneurship and tech-enabled solutions for development.
