The new couple
Nigerian actress and comedian Wofai Fada has officially married her partner, Taiwo Cole.
Wofai announced the news in a post on her Instagram account on Sunday.
Sharing photos from their civil ceremony at the Ikoyi Registry, the comedian wrote, “Every love story is beautiful, but ours is my favourite. Legally hitched. @taiwo.cole.7 #TWOforever. #MrsCole. #2 of 3, and forever to go.”
This legal wedding follows months of public controversy after videos from their traditional wedding in Calabar, Cross River, surfaced in May.
Shortly after the traditional ceremony, Taiwo’s family issued a public statement denouncing the union.“This serves to notify all acquaintances, family, and friends that the Cole family of Victoria Island, Lagos, are not aware of any marriage ceremony involving our son, Taiwo Olakitan Cole; nor did we grant permission or support in this regard.”
It continued, “As such, person(s) parading themselves as new members of the Cole family by virtue of this purported event are neither known nor accepted by the family. All publications and documents being circulated about this should be disregarded,” the statement read.Despite the family’s position, Wofai posted a video captioned “Let love lead” on her Instagram page, where she has 1.2 million followers, amidst the controversy surrounding her marriage to Taiwo Cole.Meanwhile, Kehinde Cole, the twin sister of Wofai’s husband, congratulated the couple, despite her family’s disapproval.“Congratulations to my twin brother and my new sister in love – your union is blessed with love,” she posted on X on Sunday.
