During a press conference organized by the pan-Igbo socio-cultural organization in Lagos on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, Sunday Ossai was reaffirmed as the legitimate president of Ohaneze Ndi-Igbo Lagos.
The press conference aimed to clarify the leadership of Ohaneze Ndi-Igbo worldwide, Lagos Chapter, amidst rumors of factionalism. Ossai debunked claims of two factions within the Lagos chapter and called on Ohaneze Ndi-Igbo worldwide to restrain Chief Solomon Aguene from parading himself as the president, as his tenure ended in June. Aguene had reportedly obtained a consent judgment for tenure elongation from an unconfirmed court, a move criticized by Ossai and other members.
Chiefs Eze Ambassador Remi Anyamele and Eze Nicholas Njoku expressed their support for Ossai, emphasizing that Ohaneze Ndi-Igbo requires a single president with a four-year tenure, and Aguene’s actions were unacceptable. They dismissed claims of a court consent being binding on Ohaneze Ndi-Igbo, stating that conflict resolution within the organization is achieved through dialogue and not litigation.
Chief Mike Orji, Chief Robert Obasi, and Chief Everest Ozonweke also endorsed Ossai as the legitimate president, citing Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu’s confirmation of Ossai’s presidency during his visits to Lagos. Ossai, elected in 2023, expressed his vision for Ohaneze Ndi-Igbo Lagos as an organization that grows in strength and caters to the well-being of Ndi-Igbo.
In conclusion, Ossai emphasized the qualities of a true leader, highlighting the need for leadership that takes risks for others, directs and motivates people, and inspires followers.
