President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday appointed Christopher Gwabin Musa, a major general, as the new chief of defence staff (CDS).
Here are eight things to know about new CDS, Major General Musa:
1 Musa was born on December 25, 1967 in Sokoto.
- He hails from Zangon Kataf in Kaduna State.
- He is a member of the 38th Regular Course of the Nigerian Defence Academy and was commissioned on 21 September 1991 into the Nigerian Army Infantry Corps.
- He obtained a Bachelor of Science Hons at the Nigerian Defence Academy between 1986 – 1990 and an Advanced Diploma in Security Management – University of Lagos from 2007 – 2008.
- Musa holds a Master’s in Defence Studies from the National Defence University in Beijing, China.
- He has held several command appointments during his military career and was at the thick of the fight against Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists for over a decade.
- He was Theatre Commander, Operation Hadin Kai, in the North-east before his deployment as commander Infantry Corps, from where he was appointed as CDS.
- Musa, member of the 38th infrantry course Nigeria Defence Academy Army.
