Hon Tajudeen Abbas was on Tuesday elected as Speaker. He polled 353 votes to defeat immediate past Deputy Speaker Idris Wase and Hon Sani Jaji who polled three votes each.

- Tajudeen Abbas is a Prince from the Zazzau Emirates and holds the traditional title of Iyan Zazzau.
- He was first elected to the House on the platform of Congress for Progressive Change (CPC)
- He sponsored 74 bills in the 9th House of Representatives. He also sponsored the highest number of bills in the 8th Assembly
- He was Treasurer of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Union (CPU) in Africa.
- He will be the first to emerge as Speaker of the House with a Doctorate Degree.
- Abbas is in line and can become the Emir of Zazzau popularly known as Zaria by many
- He is returning to the House of Representatives after being elected for the first time in 2011 to represent Zaria Federal Constituency.
- He was chairman of the House Committee on Land Transport overseeing then reforms in the transport sector.
- He was a lecturer at the Nuhu Bamali Polytechnic (Kaduna State Polytechnic) and later at Kaduna State University
- 21 of the bills sponsored by Abbas in the 9th Assembly were signed into law
