
Since she hit limelight with her role in Richard Mofe-Damiko’s, Out of Bounds, 25 years ago, Lilian Amah – Aluko has not looked back in the profession that gave her fame.
Though, reserved, Aluko has to her credit 10 awards and still counting.
The Anambra state-born role interpreter and author with two books in her kitty has just finished her latest work which is bound to be a blockbuster.
In this chat with the publisher of SOLIDNEWSNG.COM Online Magazine, LILIAN AZUH, the former air hostess, banker with a certificate in film, and TV production from UCLA, the University of California Los Angeles talks about her career and fashion.
Let’s get to know you better?
My name is Lilian Amah Aluko. I am the 3rd daughter of Chief P.S. Amah and Mrs. Elizabeth Ezidi Amah. My parents are both late so, officially, I am an orphan. We are from Ojoto in Anambra State.
Could you share with us your educational background?
I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the University of Lagos, Akoka, a Masters degree in English from the university of Lagos, Akoka and a certificate in film, and TV production from UCLA, the University of California Los Angeles.
What makes a good actress?
The question is subjective. In my opinion, a good actress is any actress that can subsume her personality enough to temporarily become the character she is playing
For how long have you been in the movie industry?
The movie, Out of Bounds which brought me into the industry was released in 1997 / 1998, so, I have been in the industry for about 25 years
I have been reliably informed that you just finished shooting a cinema film, tell us about this new project?
The film is still in post production. We hope to release it first quarter of next year. Permit me to not preempt our publicity by talking about it now. When the time is right, I will give you the gist.
After your first two novels, we have not heard from you again, in terms of creative writing, why?
My third book tentatively titled: The Things We Do for Each Other is almost done.. When it is published, I will sure send you a copy.
Do you think the government has done enough to support filmmakers in Nollywood?
The simply answer is no!
Why the passion for acting and not any other profession?
I have done quite of few of the things I wanted to do. I have been an air hostess, I am a writer, I have been a banker and now I am an actress. I am gifted in many areas and I see no reason why I cannot express all the gifts I have.
Your job is quite demanding, how do you relax?
I read; reading is my favourite past time and I find it very interesting.
What does style mean to you?
Style to me means class and comfort.
What is your general assessment of Nollywood?
Nollywood has come a long way but still has a long way to go.
What do you like most about being an actress?
Getting paid for doing something I enjoy
What is the most difficult thing about stardom?
For me, it is loss of privacy
Can you recollect your first ever acting role?
My first ever role on screen was as ‘Alero’ in Out of Bounds
Which is the most memorable role you have interpreted and why?
‘Alero’ in Out of Bounds – it was my first ever professional acting role. The role was challenging as the character went through a gamut of emotions. I also got the opportunity to play opposite one of the industry’s biggest actor, RMD
What is the greatest lesson life has taught you?
Never put your trust in any human being – only Almighty God is totally dependable.
How many movies have you featured in?
I really can’t say. I would have to do a bit of research to get the accurate figure.
What is the greatest thing God has done for you?
Keeping me alive and healthy!
How many awards do you have to your credits?
I have 10 awards at the moment.
How would you describe your style?
Simple and elegant

Life is short so live it to the fullest
What are the 3 things people don’t know about Lillian Amah?
If they don’t know, they don’t need to know. My privacy is very important to me.
What are you more comfortable in wearing; corporate or native attires, why?
The event or occasion determines how I turn out. I enjoy wearing both corporate and traditional attires as long as they fit well.
Can you recall the last time you wore a suit and what was the occasion?
I used to wear suits a lot when I worked in the bank. I only wear them now for very formal meeting. I last wore a suit about three weeks ago.
Everyone has a hero or icon, who are your heroes or icons?
I have quite a few: Nelson Mandela, Thomas Sankara, Martin Luther king Jnr, Barack Obama, Dame Taiwo Ajai Lycett, Mrs. Dora Akwunyili, Dr. Stella Adadevoh and Mrs. Ngozi Okonjo Iweala.
What should a woman have in her wardrobe?
A little black dress is an essential.
What kind of person is Lillian Amah?
Simple, kind, compassionate and quick tempered
What are your favorite colors?
Black and red
What is your best fashion accessory?
Wristwatch
What is your favorite food?
I am not picky about food and I don’t have a favorite food. I eat almost anything.
How about drinks?
Sweet non alcoholic cocktail are my preference but my favorite drink is water.
Can you tell us three beauty products that you can’t live without?
The only beauty products I do rather not live without are moisture and perfume because I have dry skin and I like to smell good.
Are you a lipstick or gloss woman?
Gloss, I am not much into makeup.
Where is the most fantastic place you have travelled to recently?
My last two trips this year are to Dubai and the Gambia. Both were beautiful in their own ways.
What is your advice for those upcoming actors, who see you as a role model?
My advice to them is to be themselves. Everyone has something to recommend them so always strive to be the best version of yourself you can possibly be.
What is the secret behind your good looks?
Thanks for the compliment. It is largely genetic but I try to eat right, exercise, rest
and keep my mind free of worries.
Do you love heels or flats?
I used to wear very high heels but these days, I prefer flats.
