On Thursday, June 4, 2026, the NNPC Foundation, the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) arm of NNPC Limited, has strengthened healthcare delivery in Northern Nigeria with the donation of a state-of-the-art 1.5 Tesla Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) system to the National Orthopaedic Hospital (NOH), Dala, Kano State.
The advanced diagnostic equipment was officially commissioned and handed over to the hospital during a ceremony held on Thursday in Kano, as part of NNPC Limited’s commitment to improving healthcare access and enhancing medical infrastructure across the country.
The MRI machine is expected to significantly improve the diagnosis and treatment of orthopaedic, neurological, trauma, musculoskeletal and gynaecological conditions, while reducing the burden on patients who previously had to travel long distances or endure lengthy waiting periods to access advanced imaging services.
The Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Limited, represented by the Managing Director of NNPC Foundation, Mrs Emmanuella Arukwe, speaking at the event, said the intervention aligns with the company’s strategic objective of contributing meaningfully to national development through impactful social investments.
NNPC Limited remains committed to ensuring that its corporate social responsibility initiatives are sustainable and beneficial to communities across the country, she stated.
“At NNPC Limited, we are intentional about ensuring that our social investments are impactful, sustainable, and beneficial to the communities we serve. Through the NNPC Foundation, we will continue to implement interventions that create measurable social value across Nigeria,” she said.
Arukwe described the donation as both timely and necessary, noting that it would help address challenges facing Nigeria’s healthcare sector, including infrastructure deficits, equipment shortages and the growing demand for specialised medical services.
Also speaking at the event, was the Executive Vice President, Business Services, NNPC Limited, Mrs Sophia Mbakwe, who was represented by the Executive Director, Programme Management, NNPC Foundation, Mrs Rose Okonkwo, said the company’s impact extends beyond oil and gas production to improving the lives of Nigerians.
NNPC Limited’s commitment to supporting critical national institutions and delivering sustainable interventions that benefit underserved and vulnerable populations, she reaffirmed.
“Today’s event is a testament to our steadfast commitment to delivering measurable impacts and scalable sustainable interventions to communities across Nigeria, inclusively targeting underserved and vulnerable members of society,” she said.
The MRI machine will strengthen healthcare delivery in Kano State and the North-West geopolitical zone, while benefiting patients from across the country who rely on the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Dala, for specialised medical care, she noted.
Kano State Governor, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, represented by the Commissioner for Health, Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, in his remarks, commended the NNPC Foundation for the intervention, describing it as a major milestone in advancing healthcare services in the state and the wider region.
Access to modern diagnostic equipment would facilitate early and accurate diagnosis, leading to improved patient outcomes and quality healthcare delivery, he noted.
The Chief Medical Director of the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Dala, Dr Isa Nurudeen, expressed gratitude to NNPC Limited for the donation, saying the MRI machine would have a transformative effect on the hospital’s operations and service delivery.
The equipment would enhance the hospital’s capacity to provide specialised diagnostic services and reduce the challenges faced by patients seeking advanced medical imaging, he added.
The NNPC Foundation’s donation forms part of broader efforts to support critical sectors and improve the quality of life of Nigerians through sustainable and impactful interventions.

The intervention, which is in furtherance of NNPC Ltd’s commitment to improving healthcare access and strengthening medical infrastructure across Nigeria, is expected to enhance the diagnosis and treatment of orthopaedic, neurological, trauma and musculoskeletal and gynaecological conditions.
Before the intervention, patients needing advanced MRI diagnostic services often faced challenges of travelling long distances, longer waiting time and delay of care due to high cost and availability.
Speaking at the ceremony held in the Hospital’s premises in Kano on Thursday, the Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Ltd, represented by the Managing Director of NNPC Foundation, Mrs Emmanuella Arukwe, said the donation is part of a wider corporate goal and focus to contribute strategically to national healthcare development.
